GB Women come away from the recent EuroBasket 2027 qualification unbeaten and with some major questions answered.

After winning all three games in this international window, confidence will be flowing through the veins of every player who was selected on the GB roster, and newly appointed head coach, Krumesh Patel, will be breathing a sigh of relief as his tactical approach yielded brilliant results.

With successive wins over Switzerland, Austria, and Norway, GB confirmed their place at the top of the Group D standings and will head into the next round of qualifying with a spring in their step.

On top of the positive results, several signs are pointing towards an exciting future in British basketball.

Key players are performing consistently

The talent that GB possesses is undeniable; however, shifting from roles with their domestic teams into a more prominent role at an international level can be a difficult task. Well, this roster disproves that theory.

Holly Winterburn has been front and center during this international window, especially with the questionable absence of star forward Temi Fagbenle.

During GB’s 83-71 victory over Austria, Winterburn turned in a sensational showing — recording 25 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.

This was far from a one woman window as Savannah Wilkinson scored 16 points during the team’s 58-77 triumph over Switzerland.

SLBW stars step up to the plate

From a domestic perspective, this was an exciting window. Several Super League Basketball Women (SLBW) were included in Patel’s debut squad list — an important aspect in the league’s future development.

Including the league’s players provides a connection with SLBW fans and the international team, which then creates an overwhelming buzz around qualification windows.

EuroBasket 2025 is undeniable evidence that excluding domestic talent from the GB roster will raise concerns and negativity from a fan base that should be overwhelmed in excitement for the upcoming competition.

SLBW Playoff Final MVP Georgia Gayle was omitted from a squad, despite leading the Sheffield Hatters to the trophy with a 19-point performance.

Gayle proved the selection committee wrong with her recent stint with GB. The Hatters’ star scored eight points from the bench in the side’s win over Austria.

Oaklands Wolves’ guard Shanice Beckford-Norton also proved her worth to the roster with a trademark electric showing. Against Norway and Switzerland, Beckford-Norton turned in two 17-point showings while also being a pivotal component of GB’s transition offence.

Despite the constant drama and noise surrounding the national team, the players have continued to act with an air of professionalism and claim vital victories.

GB ended their First Round qualification process with a 5-1 record and will continue to hunt for a place in EuroBasket 2027.
