Newcastle Eagles bring back ‘The Big One’ in an attempt recreate last years magical record-breaking evening.

Super League Basketball Women continues to blossom into a product that any sport would be proud to boast, yet the recognition it receives is only a whisper of what it deserves. ‘The Big One’ is here to change that.

The initiative was created by the Newcastle Eagles in 2022 which shattered the Women’s British Basketball League attendance record and was reimagined again in 2023 – squeezing 1303 fans into the beautifully crafted Vertu Motors Arena.

On a night that promises to be another spectacular occasion, many new eyes could potentially land on the sport.

With this being the case, which stars should fresh converts be on the lookout for?

Jada Guinn – #24

Newcastle are blessed with ability in the guard position, but Jada Guinn is something special.

Sitting at third in the Super League Basketball Women scoring charts, Guinn is averaging an incredible 21.7 points per game.

In the modern game, high scoring does not always represent high efficiency. Newcastle’s number 24 is the exception to that notion as she has a field goal percentage of 61.2%.

Not only is the back court general a scoring threat, she can dictate the tempo of a game and has a keen eye for playmaking – laying 4.7 assists per game for her colleagues.

Jada Guinn is the heartbeat of a first-rate Eagles roster.

Tierra Hodges – #15

A menace in the front court, Tierra Hodges is becoming one of the most feared forwards in the league.

Another player that contributes heavily on the offensive end for Newcastle, Hodges sits just a place behind Guinn in the scoring charts at fourth – putting up 20.6 points per game.

Standing at 5 foot 9 inches, the forward has announced herself as an elite inside scorer – shooting an efficient 56.3% from two point range.

It would be a crime not to mention the immense defensive capabilities that Hodges displays on a nightly basis as she grabs 6.1 defensive rebounds per game and uses her fast hands to record 2.1 steals per game.

Tierra Hodges is the definition of a natural two-way talent.

Chloe Gaynor – #3/Coach

A woman who does not get enough praise for her fantastic effort and tactical nous she has showcased this year, Chloe Gaynor has done an incredible job since she was handed the reigns as player-coach in November 2024.

Due to only playing in two games this year, it is Gaynor’s coaching ability that should be highlighted to any new spectators – leading the Newcastle Eagles to a record of 7 wins and 3 losses.

At 26 years-old, it would have been easy for such a young coach to buckle under the pressure of leading such a historic club.

However, the former under 20 GB international has displayed maturity beyond her years and her intelligent insight into the game has been on display for all to witness.
