The inaugural Super League Basketball trophy final takes place on January 26th in Birmingham.

With the first trophy on the line, both the Newcastle Eagles and the Bristol Flyers will match-up in a bid to make history in the newest era of the British game.

Historically, Tyneside has been the home of the most successful team in British basketball – winning an astounding 27 professional titles.

In comparison, the Bristol Flyers stay in the hunt for their first trophy since their ambitious move to the British Basketball League in 2014.

However, Newcastle are without silverware since the 2020/21 season, in which they slayed the London Lions with a 84-77 victory – one of the most dramatic cup finals of recent times.

Marc Steutal’s side will go into the final as favourites due to their superior placing in the SBL league standings but the Flyers have already shown their ability to thrive as the underdog -obliterating the Lions earlier in the competition.

The Bristol Flyers will also look to take the mental advantage into the final as they recently dismantled the Eagles – 98-94.

Keddy Johnson showcased his MVP level talents in the tie by putting up a ridiculous set of stats – 30 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Newcastle will be under pressure to formulate a plan to prevent Johnson from getting into a rhythm and ending the contest before it has chance to begin.

It is not like Steutal is short of talent to call upon to takeover the game as Mike Okauru and Seneca Knight have formed a formidable partnership on the court – the latter putting up a mouth-watering 37 points in the breath taking defeat to Cheshire Phoenix in his last outing.

With the addition of a traditional point guard, Trey Pulliam, the Eagles have displayed more fluidity in their offense – allowing Knight more opportunities to move off the ball rather than create for others.

Can Newcastle continue their dominance in the new dawn of British Basketball? Or will Bristol etch their own name into the history books?

This historic fixture will undoubtedly be an electric spectacle.
