Finally, the highly anticipated EuroBasket training camp roster has been released – featuring several standout Super League Basketball (SLB) stars.
EuroBasket 2025 officially commences on August 27, with Team GB facing Lithuania. Finally, the training camp roster has been announced.
European stars such as Quinn Ellis, Gabriel Olaseni and Sacha Killeya-Jones were inevitably going to board the plane to EuroBasket. However, fans of the SLB will be desperate to see which players from their favourite teams have made the cut.
SLB Most Valuable Player leads the domestic participants
Aaryn Rai – who has recently re-signed with the London Lions for the 2025/26 campaign – is the standout SLB superstar who has been named on the training camp roster.
The 2024/25 Molten Most Valuable Player was in scintillating form during the previous season – averaging 14.9 points, seven rebounds, and 1.4 steals while shooting an efficient 55.7% from the floor.
Josh Ward-Hibbert – who is currently a free agent after spending the last year with the Newcastle Eagles – will also join his British counterpart in an attempt to make his case for a heavy role in the rotation.
Ward-Hibbert’s versatility and relationship with Team GB’s head coach, Marc Steutel, who is also Newcastle’s head coach, will surely work in his favour during the competition.
One player has recently decided to part ways with the Caledonia Gladiators, signing for Falco-Vulcano Energia KC Szombathely in the Hungary A-Division, is Pat Whelan.
The 28-year-old was the leading light in a woeful campaign for the Gladiators last year – registering 14.6 points over 29 appearances despite his side losing 25 of their 32 matchups.
London Lions and Manchester Basketball fans will have an opportunity to make an early assessment of their newest guards, Amin Adamu and Kaiyem Cleary, respectively, if Steutel grants them an avenue to contribute on the court.
Huge blow for Team GB supporters
Unfortunately, Team GB fans will miss out on the opportunity to observe fan favourite, Tosan Evbuomwan, showcase his exciting talents on the international stage in EuroBasket 2025.
Evbuomwan displayed that he was more than capable of becoming a mainstay in the NBA during his recent stint with the Brooklyn Nets during the previous campaign. The 24-year-old forward averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds despite having to settle for a bench role.
It is no surprise, given the current state of British basketball, that the selection committee were not provided with the funds that would tempt Evbuomwan to participate in a competition, even though it has the potential to enhance Great Britain’s reputation in the eyes of Europe.
Nevertheless, the loyal supporters of British basketball will be itching in anticipation to see how their nation fares against the world-class players that will be aiming to take EuroBasket 2025 by storm.
