Marc Steutel is becoming a prominent face at the forefront of British Basketball – coaching both the Newcastle Eagles and Great Britain.

Still considered a young head coach, Marc Steutel has already began constructing a British Basketball legacy that could inspire the next generation of aspiring coaches.

Steutel was apart of Fab Flourney’s dominant Newcastle Eagles era back in the 2009/10 season – a season that saw Newcastle life yet another league title ahead of the Sheffield Sharks.

However, the former Team Northumbria head coach ventured on his own journey before finding his way to the helm of the Eagles.

Leading Team Northumbria for several years, Steutel displayed his winning mentality by marshalling the side to the first Division One title in their history in 2017.

The success did not end there, as the league champions also added two cups to their trophy haul, signalling their head coach’s yearning to leave a lasting legacy on the British game.

2021 was the next step in Steutel’s success story as he took over as head coach of NBL Division three side, Teeside Lions.

Another successful campaign saw Flourney’s former assistant add another honour to his impressive resume – leading the Lions to a roaring victory in the Playoffs against the formidable Worcester Wolves.

Soaring Steutel lands at Eagles

As the most successful team in British Basketball history, Newcastle bares a responsibility and pressure that most young coaches would implode under – Marc Steutel is the exception.

Not only has the former head coach of the Lions brought stability to a sinking ship, he has propelled Tyneside back into greatness – winning the 28th trophy of their supreme existence.

Trophies come with a clear identity, something that Steutel has firmly established during his tenure – a devastating transition offense that stems from a resilient defensive effort. With this style of play, Newcastle are slowly becoming one of the most dangerous sides in the division.

In addition to his domestic triumphs, Tyneside’s head coach is now making a name for himself on the international stage as the main man for Great Britain.

His most recent achievement could potentially be his most impressive as he led Great Britain to EuroBasket qualification – winning four of the five group games, including a valiant display to defeat high-flying Greece.

It appears that everything Steutel puts his hands on transforms into gold dust.

Just how far can he go with his career? Are we witnessing a future NBA coach? Farfetched? Maybe.

Nevertheless, Marc Steutel’s potential should not be downplayed.
