Newcastle Eagles Women have lost two core players as overseas teams continue to poach Britain’s greatest talent.

The Newcastle Eagles would have been aiming to retain their star players as they look to build on the impressive foundations that rookie head coach Chloe Gaynor laid during the 24/25 Super League Basketball Women (SLBW) campaign.

It was a historic season for the Tynesiders, as they recorded their best-ever finish as a franchise — cementing third position in the regular season standings while winning 15 of their 20 games.

However, the Newcastle hierarchy must now find adequate replacements for two core players who have decided to compete overseas for the 25/26 season.

Jada Guinn seals Iceland move

Jada Guinn, the Eagles’ 24/25 season Most Valuable Player, will be showcasing her talents for Icelandic side, 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿-Þó𝗿, during the upcoming season.

After graduating from Chattanooga University, the dynamic guard stole the hearts of Newcastle fans with some mouth-watering performances — including a devastating standout 34-point performance against the Nottingham Wildcats, leading her side to an emphatic 89-64 victory.

Despite this being the 24-year-old’s rookie campaign, Guinn exhibited her maturity throughout the year with an incredible level of consistency – averaging 20.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

Not only will Guinn leave a gigantic hole in Newcastle’s roster, but the SLBW will hugely miss a star of this calibre in the league — as will another departing Eagles player.

Kendall Currence signs for Ippokratos

Another star, another departure. This time, the Newcastle Eagles lose a star to the Greek team, Ippokratos.

Kendall Currence was another vital cog in Chloe Gaynor’s history-making team. The former Temple Owls guard registered 13.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Despite Guinn and Tierra Hodges receiving the majority of the plaudits during the 24/25 season, Currence displayed tremendous ability on both sides of the ball and was an integral link, providing spacing and off-ball movement, which allowed the star duo to thrive.

Both departures deal monumental blows to the Newcastle Eagles’ offseason plans.
