Gravity has shifted in Los Angeles as the Dallas Mavericks may have potentially handed the Lakers they keys to a championship.

No one could have seen this one coming – Luka Doncic and Anthony Davies swap cities in perhaps, the biggest trade in NBA history.

Mavericks questioned Doncic’s ability to win championship

It was only last year when Doncic led Dallas to their first NBA Finals in 13 years.

The 25 year-old steamrollered his way to a Finals match-up with the Boston Celtics – averaging an outstanding 28.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.1 assists over 22 playoff games.

However, questions were raised over Luka’s defensive abilities.

Experts continually highlighted that when things were not going Dallas’ way, the point guard would spend more time complaining to officials instead of helping his team on defense.

Acquiring Anthony Davis in this trade would suggest that the Mavericks General Manager, Nico Harrison, clearly agreed.

The Dallas GM has swiftly explained to media outlets why the trade was initiated.

“I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance.” Harrison told ESPN.

Despite never winning Defensive Player of the Year – Davis is a five-time NBA All-Defensive Team player.

At 31 years of age, he leaves the LA Lakers with championship experience – after winning the NBA Finals in 2020.

Who has won the trade?

Rob Pelinka and the Lakers will feel like they have pulled off one of the greatest heists in NBA history as they add five time All-Star, Luka Doncic, to their roster.

Head Coach, JJ Reddick, will feel like the team is in a championship window with the legendary LeBron James showing the world that Father Time does not effect him.

Nevertheless, there are issues with this acquisition.

Doncic’s conditioning and injury status has been a concern throughout last years post-season run and have carried on into this year – only playing in 22 of the Mavericks games so far.

In contrast, Anthony Davis has seemingly put his injury woes behind him and could build a formidable partnership with the devastating Kyrie Irving.
