For an expansion franchise, Liverpool Basketball is making all the right noises — on and off the court.
By announcing they would be participating in Super League Basketball so close to the season, there were a lot of question marks surrounding how successful Liverpool would be this season.
With no head coach, late roster announcements, and an 11,000-seater arena to be filled, Liverpool had a mammoth task to build momentum.
Despite appointing former NBA assistant coach Roy Jones, it didn’t change their fortunes as the side were defeated in both their opening championship fixtures. Nevertheless, the shock signing of the reigning MVP changed everything.
Pat Robinson has ignited Liverpool Basketball
Nobody, and I mean nobody, could have predicted this signing. Pat Robinson. 2025-26 Super League Basketball MVP. Sixth Player of the Year. This was a statement.
Last season, Robinson was a man possessed for the Cheshire Phoenix; he averaged 20 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, shooting 57.7% from the floor. The talented guard wasn’t just devastating; he was inevitable.
Robinson has already proven he is far from a one-season wonder. This year, he has picked up exactly where he left off, but this time, from a more prominent role in the rotation.
The Liverpool star is leading the championship scoring charts, scoring 20.3 points per game.
A signing of this nature doesn’t just pick up the standard on the floor; it instills belief. Recruiting serious players shows a franchise is not just here to make up the numbers. And now business off the court mirrors that level of ambition.
Free ticket sales initiative gets eyes on the product
No business has the word “free” in their vocabulary, yet Liverpool’s partnership with Adidas has allowed the club to get supporters into the M&S Arena at no cost.
For a city with football as its religion, this is a fantastic initiative that can attract new eyes to British basketball with the aim of growing a loyal fanbase.
Of course, getting bums on seats is one objective; leaving them wanting more is an entirely different task, but the talent now on Liverpool’s roster gives the franchise an excellent chance of doing so.
Hoopfix’s Instagram account announced that 8,500+ tickets have been handed out for Sunday’s game against the Newcastle Eagles — with the club receiving 15,000 ticket requests.
Now, Liverpool will be desperate to continue their impressive first season in the SLB by clinching a playoff spot.
However, for now, Super League Basketball’s newest franchise is ticking all of the right boxes.
