The Nottingham Wildcats star player, Jo Langbehn, has signed for the GiroLive Panthers in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL).

Cover your eyes, Nottingham Wildcats fans; the annual dismantlement of your talented roster has begun — and Jo Langbehn is the first confirmed departure.

The GiroLive Panthers are constructing a roster to improve on their 11-11 regular-season record last season — cementing the team’s fifth-place finish in the DBBL and a run to the playoff quarterfinals.

GiroLive have bagged themselves an ever-improving star in Langbehn, but transitioning into a new role in a new country is never easy, and it will be a big test of resolve for the 23-year-old.

Langbehn leaves behind a gaping hole in Nottingham’s roster

This is the circle of life when it comes to British basketball. Perceived smaller franchises uncover a hidden gem, play a pivotal role in the player’s development, and then reap little benefit after just one season together.

Money talks, and so do a player’s ambitions. After the impressive season she had, Langbehn is more than deserving of an opportunity at a higher level as she looks to maximise her potential.

Nottingham will struggle to replace Langbehn’s production in the upcoming season, and frankly, on their budget, it is unlikely they will find a similar calibre of player.

Throughout the 2025-26 Super League Basketball Women (SLBW) regular season, Langbehn led the Wildcats in both scoring and rebounding — averaging 18.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.5 stocks per game, while shooting 56.1% from the floor.

Langbehn’s two-way presence was outstanding for the Wildcats. Even during the toughest matchups, the forward managed to make a positive impact and was a vital reason why the franchise clinched an unexpected playoff berth.

However, the team’s lack of budget again highlights a major factor with the SLBW — and that is continuity.

For both the women’s and men’s league to progress further, investment and stability are required to retain the quality stars that lesser teams uncover. In turn, this would create a buzz around the fanbase that some form of success could be on the horizon.

Unfortunately, for the Nottingham Wildcats, their main priority is to now uncover another diamond in the rough and make another run to the postseason.
