Dawn Staley has continued to bring consistent success to the South Carolina Gamecock’s programme during her illustrious tenure.

South Carolina eased to victory in the SEC Tournament Final – dominating Texas 64-45 to win their third consecutive SEC title.

With Texas on an incredible 15-game win streak prior to the match-up, eyes were firmly focused on how the Gamecock’s would contain the electric Madison Booker.

Nevertheless, Staley drew up a defensive master plan that her players executed to perfection – holding Booker to just 10 points while only shooting 4-of-13 on the night.

Dawn Staley’s tactical nous has never been in question as the Philadelphia native was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 as the basketball world was reminded of her stellar career.

The NCAA all-time steals leader steered the University of Virginia to three successive Final Four appearances during her outstanding college career – winning the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Award in 1991.

Starting her career at Temple University in Philadelphia, the Virginia graduate displayed her natural leadership abilities – finishing her reign as head coach with a record of 172-80 losses and winning several championships in the process.

Staley decided after eight successful years at Philadelphia’s only public university, it was time for a fresh challenge.

Her next destination would be the prestigious South Carolina Gamecocks, just in time for the 2008/2009 season.

According to Omicron Delta Kappa, Staley’s teams consistently achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher – which, for anyone in England who is wondering, would be the equivalent of a B grade.

Not only this, but to be mentored by the legendary coach, a player must respect their parents and their family. It allows South Carolina to build an eco-system and a chemistry within her sides.
