Newcastle Eagles defeat Tartu Ulikool to make it seven wins out of eight in the European North Basketball League group stage.
A 58-79 victory against their Estonian opponents secured a regular season record in Europe for the Eagles.
On a night where they had already secured their place in the ENBL Playoffs, Marc Steutel looked keen to find the consistency that Newcastle have been craving all year.
A star-studded performance from new recruit, Trey Pulliam, set the tone for the evening – putting up a fantastic 23 points for his side.
Despite only recording four assists on the night, Pulliam pulled the strings and orchestrated a free-flowing performance that left travelling supporters confident that Newcastle could make a deep run in the competition.
Since the acquisition of the Texas- born point-guard, ball movement issues have become a thing of the past for the most successful side in British Basketball history.
A familiar foe
However, even with another glittering group stage showing, the Eagles will now eagerly anticipate a match-up against a well known opponent – the Danish side, Bakken Bears.
Tyneside supporters will remember suffering a heart-breaking defeat at the hands of the Bakken Bears in March of last year as Newcastle crashed out at the quarter-final stage.
Nevertheless, Steutel and his reinvigorated army will have faith that they can put in a heroic performance against a side that went on to win the competition in 2024.
Fans will feel optimistic that the devastating trio of Pulliam, Seneca Knight and Mike Okauru can propel the side to another trophy triumph.
With Bakken falling to the sword in their most recent ENBL fixture versus Brno – there is no reason why the Newcastle Eagles should feel like the inferior side.
Marc Steutel will look to ride the momentum of the Super League Basketball Trophy success and carry his side to success on the European stage.
